Careers360: Tell us something about the admission process?

Dr. Jitin Chadha: The IIAD admission process depends on the course you are applying for. For undergraduate programs, students who have passed any stream (humanities/commerce/science) are considered eligible to apply for admission. IIAD accepts students from any approved National or International Board of Education. For Design courses (Fashion Design, Interior Architecture and Design and Communication Design), there is the iDAT exam followed by a studio simulation round (which is not being held currently due to Covid 19 protocols) For Fashion Business Management there is the iMAT exam followed by a personal interview. Students can apply for all the programmes either via our website or offline at the campus.

Careers360: What kind of infrastructure can students expect at the institute? Please elaborate?

Dr. Jitin Chadha: The Indian Institute of Art and Design in collaboration with Kingston University is located in New Delhi, India. The specially designed campus of IIAD provides huge spaces to facilitate multidisciplinary collaboration. The campus provides ample space for an art gallery where student’s work can be displayed along with the advanced facilities for teaching and learning. Easels, Dummies and soft boards lineup the gallery space for a spectacular display of Art & Designwork. Projection facilities intensify the ambience further.

In addition to IIAD facilities, our infrastructure has evolved keeping in mind the dynamic needs of students and faculties. The collaborative spaces within the lobby and mentoring cubicles around the area are designed to attract the attention to the student’s work and to encourage one on one discussions between students and faculty. The result is a state of the art campus with cutting edge technology poised to deliver world class design education in India.

Careers360: There is a lot of stress that is being made with regard to interaction with the industry as well as companies that recruit. What are the steps being taken by the institute in this direction?

Dr. Jitin Chadha: Industry interaction is one of the most essential aspects in learning at IIAD. Interacting and learning from specialists in the field helps in providing students with a professional perspective and enlightens them about industry standards and common practices in the current scenario. This is what will help students to adapt and subsequently grow as they enter the field. During the academic year, the institute engages in systematic interactions with the industry by organizing a wide range of activities like live projects, industry visits, seminars, Industry conclaves, workshops and guest lectures.

The Career Services Division team at IIAD encourages students to explore internship opportunities throughout the duration of their chosen programme. Industry interaction along with project-based learning is what helps students understand the applications of their learning.

Careers360: Internships are now mandatory as per AICTE guidelines. Does the institute help students with this? If yes, how?

Dr. Jitin Chadha: Yes, we at IIAD believe that the experience of an internship programme is a critical component of the learning process across all our different programmes. We have a special Career Services Division team which encourages students to explore internship opportunities during their time at the institute. An internship is an ideal platform for students to understand the norms and nuances of an industry, especially in ones which are as practical as fashion and design. Students undertake 8+16 week internships during the course of their programme.

Careers360: Can you please share details if there is any collaboration with universities abroad?

Dr. Jitin Chadha: Owing to IIAD’s collaboration with Kingston University, during the course of their degree programme, students have the option to transfer to universities abroad to complete their studies. The UK higher education has a credit based system of evaluation. This credit based system is accepted the world over and these credits are transferable across the globe.

The curriculum at IIAD has also been rigorously mapped with collaborating universities leading to a seamless transfer in either the penultimate or final year of their specialization. This gives the students an opportunity to complete part of their degree programme from leading international Universities.
