SHUATS was established in 1910 in the form of a 'school of agriculture', which was form by Dr. Sam Higginbottom with a mission to 'Serve the Land' and 'Feed the Hungry'. The school was imparting training and adopting scientific technology in the production of crops and livestock together through the participatory approach of science and technology and farmer interaction forum. The college offers B.Sc and M.Sc in agriculture through its various departments, which include the department of agronomy, department of genetics and plant breeding, department of horticulture, department of agricultural extension and communication, department of agricultural economics, department of plant pathology, department of entomology, department of soil science and agricultural chemistry and department of animal husbandry and dairying.

Social and cultural activities club: The SHUATS promotes cultural activities for the overall development of the students. Students get an opportunity to enhance and improve their ethical and personal abilities and to gain self-confidence through this platform in the field of music, dance, theatre, literature and fine arts. Students are motivated to participate in these activities.
Students Welfare Board: The Students Welfare Board organises various activities on the campus, which include annual sports competitions, cultural festivals, and celebration of the national days.
Women's Grievance Redressal Cell: This cell of SHUATS is committed to the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women and takes active steps towards gender sensitisation and elimination of sexual harassment.
Anti Ragging Committee: Anti-Ragging Committee of the college ensures compliance with the provisions of the regulations as well as the provisions of the law concerning ragging is in force. It also monitors and oversees the performance of the Anti-Ragging Squad in prevention of ragging in the institution. The committee makes sure there is no ragging happening on the campus.
Women Empowerment Cell: The WEC cell of the college was established to address the practical issues related to the welfare of and equal opportunities for women faculty members, staff and students.
Committee for SC/ST: The cell resolves all the affairs and problems related to the SC/ST students and faculties.
Placement Cell: Through the placement cell, the College makes students constantly aware of the changing trends/demands of the industry so as to equip them with the highest level of potential for cracking the tough selection procedures. Experts from within the industry regularly visit the college for talks/seminars/interactive sessions which immensely help job seekers in their preparations for the same.
Entrepreneurial Cell: The objective of the cell is to provide various information with reference to starting a business to budding student entrepreneurs. It fosters better linkages between industries and R and D activities of the college and promotes innovation through the establishment of incubation centre. The cell regularly organizes camps, seminars, workshops, industrial visits and other developmental programmes.
Alumni Association: This association of SHUATS is dedicated to advancing innovation and technological excellence for the benefit of humanity.
NSS: The programme is sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India. The National Service Scheme (N.S.S) was initiated in 1969-70 with a view to promote social consciousness and develop a sense of responsibility as well as a sense of discipline and dignity of labour among the youth of the University. The NSS unit of Naini Agricultural Institute conducts 10 days special camps in different villages. This gives the opportunity to know the issues of the village and contribute to social awareness. The unit also organises various rallies and programmes to create awareness about matters of importance for rural and slum populations.
NCC: Students of the Naini Agricultural Institute voluntarily join the organization with the spirit of serving the nation. Regular camps are organized at the Battalion level. The students are trained to develop leadership, character, sportsmanship, confidence and to create a force of trained and disciplined youth which could be utilized for the nation in case of an emergency.
Counsellor Cell: The cell facilitates academic, emotional, social and cognitive development of the student and empowers them in their learning and personal development.
