The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) offers a wide range of internships for research experiences with the faculty from IITs/IISc/IISER/IIIT/other course-offering institutes. NPTEL course toppers and candidates passing the certification exam in the Elite-Gold category are only eligible to apply for NPTEL internships.
NPTEL internships are considered for students who have passed the NPTEL certification exam and for faculty members only.
Only in-person internships are allowed. However, virtual internships are provided according to the feasibility for the PwD candidates and faculty members who cannot avail leave from their workplace.
Eligible candidates of the January-April semester will be considered for the winter internships, and the eligible candidates of the July-October semesters for the summer internship.
The duration of NPTEL internships ranges from 2 to 12 weeks. The course instructor decides the NPTEL internship duration, which depends on the nature of the internship and the availability of all other logistics. The NPTEL internship start date will also be decided by the NPTEL course instructor based on the mutual convenience of the selected candidates.
After the declaration of the NPTEL results, the course toppers and students who have passed the NPTEL certification exam with the Elite Gold category get contacted by the NPTEL official regarding internships. Depending on the availability and confirmation from the course instructor, eligible candidates of those courses where the consent of the faculty has been obtained will be informed through email with the detailed application process and the internship schedule.
The selection of candidates for the NPTEL internship will be made by the course instructor. The selection will be done based on the documents submitted by the candidates or a personal interview, or any other suitable method as per the course instructor.

The accommodation facility is not guaranteed by NPTEL. However, NPTEL tries to arrange accommodation for the interns within the institute premises. In case of no accommodation in the institute. The candidate has to arrange for his/her own accommodation outside. The local NPTEL offices at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, and IISc Bangalore can assist you in finding suitable outside accommodation, if required.
Candidates who completed the NPTEL internship will get the stipend amount and the certificate of completion.
