SNDT College of Arts and SCB College of Commerce and Science for Women, Mumbai Admission Process

SNDT College of Arts and SCB College of Commerce and Science for Women, Mumbai, are synonymous with prestige, the institution prides itself on rendering high-quality teaching solely to women. A branch of the SNDT Women's University, the campus is located at New Marine Lines, Mumbai. The admission process at SNDT College is set to select the deserving ones for its various undergraduate programs in arts, commerce, and science streams. The college thus has five full-time undergraduate programs: BA, B.Com, B.Sc IT (Information Technology), BMS (Bachelor of Management Studies), and BVA (Bachelor of Visual Arts) in Painting. Each of these programs has a well-established procedure for admission designed to enable the assessment of candidates' suitability for their selected area.

SNDT College admissions usually start much before the commencement of the academic year in June or July. The admission process is mostly merit-based for most of the programs, though some courses may require different assessments through interviews or entrance examinations. Candidates must have been admitted to a recognized course for completing their 10+. The eligibility criteria may differ per program, but generally speaking, good academic standing in the relevant subjects is expected.

Application Process

The application processes at SNDT College of Arts and SCB College of Commerce and Science for Women involve the following steps:

1. Announcement of Admissions: Admission to the college is announced through the official college website and other print and media channels.

2. Application Form: Candidates must obtain and fill out the admission application form. It may be obtained online on the college website or at the college admission office.

3. Document Submission: The candidates are to attach all required documents with a completely filled application form, such as:

  • 10th and 12th standard mark sheets
  • School leaving certificates
  • Character certificates
  • Caste certificates (if applicable)
  • Recent passport-size photographs

4. Entrance Exam/Interview: The choice of a program may require candidates to take either entrance exams (like GET for BMS) or personal interviews (for BA and possibly other courses) or both.

5. Merit List Publication: These merit lists are then announced by the college based on the performance of candidates in qualifying examinations, entrance tests, and interviews, where applicable.

6. Counselling and Seat Allotment: Shortlisted candidates are called to attend counselling, where they can select courses based on their merit rank and seat availability.

7. Payment of Fees: Such candidates shall be required to pay the requisite fees on or before the prescribed date to secure their admission.

8. Document Verification: All submitted documents are verified by the college before admission is confirmed.

The Admission Process Based on Degree

B.Com: The Bachelor of Commerce program at SNDT College accommodates a specific approved intake of 120 seats. As admission guidelines are not articulated, it is presumed that admission eligibility will be based on the score achieved in 10+2 in the commerce stream or its equivalent examination.

B.Sc Information Technology: Importantly, this program has an approved intake of 60 seats. Admission to B.Sc IT is strictly done on the basis of merit. Part of the consideration may well arise from 10+2 science results by weightage for Mathematics and Computer Science.

BA: This entrance procedure to the Bachelor of Arts program is also more comprehensive. Selection is based on proficiency in English, merit at the academic level, and performance on a personal interview. Thus, it shows that students whose strengths are in communication and genuine interest in arts subjects would be admitted.

BMS: The Bachelor of Management Studies admission process is different. Candidates may have to clear the GET - Graduate Entrance Test conducted by SNDT Women's University. Alternatively, the college may hold its interview process. The university also reserves the right to conduct any other test pertaining to admission into the BMS.

BVA Painting: The Bachelor of Visual Arts in Painting program is offered for those aspiring to be an artist. No specific information has been mentioned regarding the admission procedure- however, it is likely that the college will consider the candidate's artistic portfolio and might conduct an aptitude test or interview for skill assessment.

Hi aspirant,

Teacher training institutes are present mostly in all the states of India. You can choose any one of them. But I suggest that its better to do a B.Ed degree after a Bachelor degree instead of teacher training. Because, with the teacher training qualification, you can teach primary school students only.

Moreover choose this path if you are really interested to teach, because it is a job that creates many good generations.

All the best.
