Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya is a state university, established in June 2012. The university is also known as Bilaspur Univesity (BU). The university is recognised by UGC and it is a member of Association of Indian University. The total of 173 Govt. and private colleges are affiliated to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya, formerly called Bilaspur University in the 05 districts of Chhattisgarh. The colleges carry out undergraduate and postgraduate studies through the Department of Commerce and Financial Studies Food Processing and Technology, Computer Science and Applications, Hotel Management and Hospitality, Microbiology, and Bio Informatics
Location: Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya is located at Old High Ct Road, near Gandhi Chowk, Tikrapara, Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. Bilaspur Railway Junction and Gandhi Chowk Bus Depot are within 3 km distance from the college. Bilaspur Airport is about 13 km from the university campus.

Skill Development Programmes: Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya in collaboration with Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS) Mumbai is running a skill development programme, which is a National University Students Skill Development (NUSSD) Programme. Under this programme, students are trained in market-oriented programmes. NUSSD also organises the training programmes on personality development and communication skills and helps students to prepare better for the recruitment process. The NUSSD also makes sure that they can help most of the students getting placed into various companies and industries by helping them in every possible way.
NUSSD promotes entrepreneurship among the students as entrepreneurship plays an important role in the country's economic development. It is useful for the process of industrialisation and economic growth. The rate of economic progress of a nation depends upon its rate of entrepreneurship development in the people. Education requires entrepreneurship development awareness to promote entrepreneurship for building the nation. NUSSD provides various information with reference to starting a business to budding student entrepreneurs and to create entrepreneurial culture among students. It fosters better linkages between industries and R and D activities of the college and promotes innovation The cell regularly organises camps, seminars, workshops, industrial visits and other developmental programmes.
National Service Scheme (NSS): The programme is sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India. The National Service Scheme (N.S.S) was initiated in 1969-70 with a view to promote social consciousness and develop a sense of responsibility as well as a sense of discipline and dignity of labour among the youth of the University. BU regularly organises the community-based programmes to inculcate the spirit of service in students.
Courses & Fees
Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya offers undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D courses in Arts, Commerce and Science. Eligible candidates need to submit their application and pay the application fee.
Admissions to all the BU courses are based on the qualifying marks.
Each academic department of BU prepares the merit list based on the qualifying marks.
And, as per the merit lists, candidates have to visit the university’s concerned department and complete the admission process, which includes documents verifications and fee payment.
Once the admission process is completed, candidates will receive the ID Card.
Atal Bihari Vajpayee Vishwavidyalaya, Bilaspur has the facilities of the library, sports, canteen and computer centre. NSS service promotes students participation in social services and nation-building.
- Library: BU’s library has the latest volumes, in the fields of art, commerce, science, and general areas. It has the membership for e-resources and has a subscription to national and international peer-reviewed e-journals.
- Medical Facilities: BU has a medical facility. Medical doctors and other necessary first aid and emergency medicines are available for the staff and students. A well qualified medical practitioner is available during the university hours, and the students can avail the medical facilities free of cost.
- Sports: The University has indoor and outdoor sports facilities. Indoor games like carrom, table tennis, chess are available in the hostel. The college has a well-furnished football field and cricket fields. It also has a hockey field, handball, volleyball and badminton court. Tournaments in these sports are organised at University level.
- Canteen: BU has a well-maintained cafeteria situated within the institute campus premises. Snacks and food items are available during institute timings at reasonable rates.
- Computer Centre: The computer centre of BU maintains and manage campus networking and internet facility. It provides both wired and WiFi connectivity to students and staff. The centre is equipped with the latest system/application software, operating system and various utility software. All students & staff are allowed to access the internet for academic and research purposes.
