Orissa Academy of Social Sciences and Integrated Studies BALASORE is an affiliated college that was set up in 2008 at Gopalgaon near Siridi Sai Temple Balasore Odisha. The founder of this institution reaches far and wide at roughly 1.5 acres of land with a variety of programmes in social sciences and integrated studies. Thus, with 315 direct students and 13 academic staff members the academy offers the appropriate learning setting. The institute has four distinctive degree programmes in which it provides courses at the under graduate and post graduate level in different specific areas of social sciences and management.
Orissa Academy has a number of facilities that seek to improve the learning experience for students. The library is well endow with a number of books and those in Social Work, Research Methodology, Rural Management, Business Management, Hotel Management, and Tourism and Travel Management. We propose to use faculty-supervised e-library services with an accessible library from 10 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon. The campus has Wi-Fi. For any of the students who want to live in the premise, the institute offers the hostel services for both boys and girls. Girls’ hostel for students staying in hostels, which are nearby campus have television, indoor games and a structured time-table to be assisted by a warden. practicals and operation skills are also developed through the resourceful laboratories present in the academy and for the convenience of the guest faculty and the student’s family members, there is also a guest house in the academy.
Orissa Academy of Social Sciences and Integrated Studies offers four full-time courses: BHM, BTTM, MSW and BFD are some of the programmes which are currently offered under the GTU namely; Bachelor Of Hotel Management, Bachelor Of Tourism And Travel Management, Master Of Social work and lastly Bachelor Of Fashion Design. Collectively, the approved intake for theses courses is 220 per year. The BHM, BTTM and MSW programmes have expected seats of 60 for each programme while the BFD programme only has 40 expected seats. All these courses are presented with the objective of enriching the student’s knowledge and experience in the field of specialisation.
The admission process which is in practice at the OSASIS about the new session involves in the process of admission to admit the most suitable candidates for the respective course. Candidates that meet the requirements set down are called for a group discussion as well as a one on one interview. The selection criterion involves the performance of the applicant during the personal interview and the academic performance of the candidate. The academy follows a zonal reservation system and some of the seats are reserved for candidates belonging to SC/ST and women. However, in the event that the school does not get enough applicants in the reserve category then the seats are made available for normal applicants. It also has a Training & Placement Cell that organises the sessions to help student to update their skills and get placed. Unfortunately, there is little information about scholarships but the academy provides excellent opportunities to get education through the offered courses and friendly learning environment.
