Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh was established in the year 1991 and the foundation stone was laid by the former Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Chandra Shekhar. The institute is also known as GMCH. In the year 1991 the institute was granted provisional affiliation by the Panjab University and later on in the year 1999 it got the permanent affiliation. Sh. Baleshwar Rai, the then Adviser to the Administrator of Chandigarh inaugurated the very first academic session of GMCH in the year 1991.
