Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Sri Nagar was established in 1973 as one of the state universities in India. The establishment of the university reflects the birth of a popular movement of the masses of the Garhwal region who strived for development through higher education in the mountainous region. The university finally came into being to address problems of rural backwardness, social-economic and geographical constraints and laying the foundation for empowerment of future generations.
HNB Garhwal University, Sri Nagar, was converted to one of the central universities in India in 2009. Admission procedure for courses in HNB Garhwal University is basically done in two ways – either through merit or through entrance examinations. There is no major cut off that is released by the university. Most of the UG admissions (except B. Tech) is made on the basis of merit, and the cut off for B. Tech courses depends upon the cut off published by IIT Mains authorities. The university also offers three types of scholarships:
For B.Ed. Students: Six students in the entrance exam carried out by the University for Admission to B.Ed. secure the top six positions. A monthly scholarship of Rs. 200/- each is granted. BPL Students: The Rs. 1500/- per month scholarship is granted to a maximum of ten talented university students belonging to the BPL category.
For Students from Economically Weaker Sections- The Bonafide students belonging to the SC/ST/OBC category are awarded some of the scholarships, provided that the annual income of the applicant's family does not exceed Rs. 2,50,000 in the case of SC/ST students and Rs. 1,00,000 in the case of the OBC category. In any nationalized bank, students falling into this category must have a bank account.

Securing admission is just the starting phase of student satisfaction. HNB Garhwal University infrastructure and facilities play a pivotal role in a student’s well-rounded growth. Many researchers have concluded that the facilities provided by colleges have a huge impact on the overall development of students. The better the facilities, the better the students turn out to be. Not only the students but even the faculty has shown better outcomes. Factors like engagement, behaviour, and health also flourish alongside learning. Hence, it is important for every student to recapitulate the facilities that they desire provided along with the college’s infrastructure. HNB Garhwal University facilities include a library, hostel, cafeteria, gym, and sports fields, among others. A health or medic department is also compulsory.
With the Garhwal campus being the headquarters, the HNB has two more campuses extended at the Chauras, Pauri and Tehri campuses. The Chauras and Garhwal campuses are separated by the river Alaknanda. Additionally, there are over 121 colleges around Uttarakhand that are affiliated to HNB. The HNB Garhwal University campus provides beautiful weather and views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges. The environment is very pleasant that rejuvenates learning and motivates students here.
There are over 11 housing hostels available for students out of which 5 are for girls, and 2 are newly built. The type of accommodation is shared rooms for students. Many cultural activities like debate, folk songs/dance, plays, painting competition, among others are a regular part of hostel life here. They also have a special guest house for students’ family and other relatives and a dining hall with a mess that serves many quality dishes to hostellers and students. The college also owns a dispensary that regularly checks the health of students and other staff. Currently, there is one doctor and an attendant that handles the medical issues of students and staff. The medicines here are completely free of cost for students and faculty.
Talking about academic facilities, the college does not leave any requirement unfulfilled. The institution also provides a massive library that stocks over 33000 thousand textbooks, reference books, journals and research books for students and faculty. The library also has an online platform where students and faculty can access over 4500 e-journals.
Established in 1986, the university also invests in their special computer centre that is solely dedicated to research and training in the IT field. The college dreams to flourish by developing the IT infrastructure through this centre.
Lastly, students also have sports privileges at HNB campus as the college promotes sports widely through its wide range of options. It has badminton courts, basketball court, tennis and table tennis court, volleyball court, hockey, cricket ground, football ground along with a swimming pool. Surprisingly, the college also has a wrestling and boxing hall, kabaddi and rock climbing, handball.
Being a Central University the infrastructure of HNBGU is very appealing and good. We have well maintained labs. And also free wifi for students across the whole campus. Also we have a well developed central library for studying.
College infrastructure is absolutely worth it I must say. The college has large classroom, grounds, labs, fully equipped spacious classrooms, spotrs room etc. The hygiene is always maintained throughout the year.
Infrastructure is very good as compared to other colleges having spacious classrooms labs, playgrounds, sports facilities etc. The library is fully equipped with latest books and security is always there.

There are many placement opportunities with good package in CS and IT field. basically student should must obtain atleast 65 percentage in all over his/her academics. students with minimum of 65% are eligible for placements. As of now it will be good and better to obtain 70% and above so that they will be eligible for all companies and placements. The average placement of CS and IT is 4.5 LPA. There are offers with high package based on the role and skillset.

HNBGU Garhwal is a Government Central University. The university offers the 3 years program of LLB and admission is provided through University Admission Entrance Test with reservations as per Government of India. Graduate in science with atleast one of the subjects like botany , chemistry , geology , maths ,physics , zoology , agriculture or forestry.
