The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) in Thiruvananthapuram is a premier institution dedicated to the study and research of space science and technology. The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram was established in 2007 and awarded “Deemed to be University” under the UGC Act 1956. IIST Thiruvananthapuram offers B.Tech, M.Tech, M.S, B.Tech dual degree as well as Ph.D programmes in the field of Space Science and Technology. IIST Thiruvananthapuram has been approved by the All India Council for Technical Education. (AICTE).
Admissions to IIST are based on the marks scored in entrance exams like JEE Advanced for B.Tech and GATE for M.Tech, and CSIR/NET-JRF for Ph.D programmes. As per the placement record of 2023 published on the official website, the highest package offered in IIST placements 2023 was of Rs 28 Lakhs for M.Tech Machine Learning and Computing course. All the courses registered more than 50% placements with several courses even achieving 100% placements. IIST also offers scholarships to eligible students. Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram as an institute of national importance offers financial aid in the form of IIST scholarships for students to enroll in different programmes of study. The main purpose of IIST scholarships is to ensure that educational goals are not subjected to any form of financial limitations. The undergraduate students are provided with the Department of Space Technology (DoS) scholarships which have tuition waivers and other benefits such as book grants and are done as per the approval of the Board of Governors instituting these scholarships. The undergraduate students are offered IIST scholarships waivers and benefits based on their performance in previous semesters or high school diploma merit before enrolment.
In the IIIST Thiruvananthapuram, at the postgraduate level, the students are offered pertinent IIST scholarships from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Human Resource Department the Government of India. These upper-level IIST scholarships come with specified amounts owing to certain eligibility criteria which are then possessed and maintained by the candidate for continuity of the doctoral programme. The students are granted fellowships and research assistantships which are continuously evaluated and the amount offered is increased at required intervals. The college is a well equipped one in terms of necessary infrastructure of the academic and non-academic domains of its body. The academic body is having a big tech based central library, well equipped laboratories of different fields. The lecture halls are big, smart tech based. The whole campus is served with a super fast WIFI services. Hostels are big and well maintained. There is a central gym, sports court, recreation hall, amphitheater, basket ball court, cricket ground as part of sports.
