Pretty good place to study the basics of Space Science. Decent courses, facilities, infrastructure and teaching staff. Located in the beautiful city of Trivandrum, God's own country of Kerala. The idea of such an institute was mooted keeping in mind the need for high quality manpower for the Indian Space Research Organization, one of world’s leading scientific organizations engaged in space research and space applications. The institute is the first of its kind in the country, to offer high quality education at the undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and post-doctoral levels on areas with special focus to space sciences, space technology and space applications. IIST was formally inaugurated on 14 September 2007 by Dr. G. Madhavan Nair, the then Chairman, ISRO and was temporarily housed in the premises of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, very close from where ISRO built and launched its first rocket.

IIST is a place for the intellect and innovation. In here you can spread the wings of your imagination begin your flight towards space, literally. College life is miscellaneous. Ranging from dancing, Ka-ra-te, swimming, to fun science projects. We have two festivals Dhanak: the cultural festival and Conscientia: the tech festival. These bring a new chaotic in the life of the campus. Being under the wing of India's prestigious space organisation, ISRO; IIST is making quite a significant progress of space education by providing full industrial exposure to its students.
