The Master of Arts in Communication program engages in a broad array of courses that range from the development of hands-on skills to the exploration of theory, to a focus on practice and application, and analysis of state-of-art research. This stimulating course which creates professionals with advanced communication skills. The course recognises the advances in communication technologies and the increasing globalisation of business enterprises. Graduates of the program serve as scholars and educators or shoulder responsibilities as communicative and creative professionals that meet global standards.
The Department of Communication offers a two - year masters program in communication with multiple specializations. Students are trained to become competent professionals in Journalism, Video Production, Animation, Web Content & Design, or Integrated Marketing Communication.

To promote communication education that leads to modern, ethical and creative media practices, with a positive bearing on the individual, industry and society.
Objectives
Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham's entry into the field of communication is an appropriate response to society's rising expectations of its media institutions, some of which, stem from the momentous changes that have occurred in our social, technological, economic and cultural landscapes. It is indeed at such junctures that media have a significant role to play in influencing people's lives, opinions and aspirations.
After economic liberalization, even as the country's communication sector grew, its practitioners have had to deal with diverse interests and reflect on complex changes confronting our society. To address such complexities, media demands professionals who are avant garde in thought, free spirited, highly creative, aesthetic, analytical and knowledgeable of the systems and processes that bear upon our nation.
Also, new opportunities are knocking on the doors of students in the area of communication. There is a need therefore, to promote a wide spectrum of abilities amongst Amrita's media students, to enable them to pursue new and allied areas that have emerged in the communication field.
Course Description
A student desirous of obtaining an M. A. Communication degree has to complete four semesters of study. The student must earn a minimum of 16 credits every semester and a total of 64 credits over four semesters, in order to qualify for the award of the degree. Please see below for detailed course information. Respective course credits are listed in the third column.
During Semester I, all modules are mandatory for all students. After Semester I, having had an introduction to the different career streams, students can make a decision regarding which career streams they would like to specialize in. They have to choose a minimum of two career streams, subject to approval by the faculty council.
A pass in bachelor's degree (10+2+3 system) in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities with an aggregate 50% mark. Candidate from the foreign universities should obtain an Equivalence Certificate from the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi.
All candidates are required to appear for the CAPTEST conducted by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. Selection is based on performance in Communication Aptitude Test -
Candidates with more than 70% aggregate marks during the first two years of their degree are exempted from appearing for the CAPTEST. However, they will have to appear for personal interview.
