The branch of engineering to report the best placement rate in 2020-21 at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi was Mathematics and Computing, followed by Computer Science and Engineering. However, there were also departments in core branches, such as Civil Engineering, which had a placement rate of just over 60 percent.
The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, established in 1961, is one of the best engineering colleges in India. In 2021 and in the last three years, IIT Delhi was ranked second by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in the engineering field.
With the latest data obtained through a Right to Information application, Careers360 has analysed IIT Delhi’s placement performance for the BTech batch graduating in 2020-21 for different branches of engineering. IIT Delhi, which is also an Institute of National Importance (INI), shared no information on the number of enrolled students or the salary packages offered by the companies to its students.

Like most colleges, IIT Delhi too showed the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in its placement. The overall campus placement percentage was dropped by five percent in 2020, while in 2021 the placement was almost unchanged.
For the 2021 batch, the average placement for the branches listed below is nearly 86 percent. IIT Delhi did not disclose details on salary packages received by students. IIT Delhi said that the salary information is conveyed directly to the students by the companies. It said in its response that the Office of Career Services estimates median or average salaries “based on basic data available from companies”. According to that, the average salary offered to students of 2020-21 batch was Rs 22.3 lakh per annum – Rs 15.9 lakh (gross) for domestic offers and USD 88,773 (gross) for international ones.
