If you’re planning to study in UK, most colleges there provide scholarship based on your performance in the first year so mostly you won’t be getting any scholarship until you’re in the second year.

Dear Brock, Every University has its own criteria to offer scholarships to International students. Few Universities offer Merit scholarships while Few Universities offer Scholarships on need basis. So it depends on the University, type of scholarship and course you are applying for. If you can help us with these details, we can help you.

It can be merit based or need based. Merit based scholarship is what you get on the basis of your academic record. Need based is if your application is commendable but you do not have enough finances to pull you through, the University will offer need based scholarships only after looking at the Family income reports.
