The Chennai Institute of Technology (CIT) is located in the Kundrathur block of Chennai. It was established in the year 2010. The Parthasarathy Seeniammal Educational Trust was behind the establishment, and continues to have a hand in the administration. This trust runs several companies across a diverse set of industries. All these industries are located in Chennai itself. These industries are to do with automobiles, automotive parts and heat treatment. The CIT is affiliated to the Anna University, which is also located in Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu state.
The courses at the CTI are approved by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education), as well as by the DOTE (Directorate of Technical Education), Tamil Nadu. It is also recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the DSIR (Department of Scientific and Industrial Research), Ministry of Science and Technology as a research hub. It has membership of several professional bodies. The Chennai Institute of Technology is a member of the CII (Confederation of Indian Industries), ACMA (Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India), CSI (Computer Society of India), SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers), IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) and the ICTACT (ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu). The CTI is also a signatory to the ABK- AOTS Dosokai pact of friendship and knowledge collaboration between India and Japan.
At the Chennai Institute of Technology, courses are available at both the UG as well as the PG levels. At the undergrad level, B.E. programmes may be availed in the engineering areas of- Civil, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical & Electronics, Computer Science and in Electronics & Communication. At the master’s level, the courses available are more specialized. The M.E. programme may now be pursued in the areas of- CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Manufacturing), Applied Electronics and in Computer Science & Engineering. The entire academics is run by a cohort of departments, each with expertise in its own area. There are departments for each of the six undergrad engineering areas.
Research is also a very important area at the CTI. That is why several Centres of Excellence (CoE) have been placed within the campus, to work on each of the key focus areas. There are nine of them in total, two of them on their own, the others in collaboration with external bodies. They former are for the areas of- Mobility and Metrology. The Centre of Excellence in Industrial Robotics is with the Kuka Robotics from Germany. The one on Mechanical Engineering is in collaboration with Harita Techserv. The same company is also responsible for the CoE on Cutting Skills. The Skill Development Council (SDC) of the Government of India, is behind the Skill Development Centre here. The CIT- Virtusa is with the BPM (Business Process Management) University. Virtusa is a Pegasystems Platinum partner. The CoE on Buildings Education is with the US- based organization Trimble. The last one is the CIT- DMTH SDC.
The Chennai Institute of Technology lays particular stress on providing benefits to the broader society. The students here have likewise been instilled with such value. And that is why the students of the BITM have been active participants in government schemes such as the NSS (National Service Scheme), Youth Red Cross and the Kalam Green Project. The students have also been blood donors in association with the local chapter of the Lion’s Club. There are several student clubs here, to take care of their co- curricular and extra- curricular needs. The clubs here are for- Calligraphy, Mobile Apps, Dance, Debate, Language, Photography, Financial Management, Music and in Robotics.
The campus has much to offer. There are hostel facilities for both boys and girls. There is a sports field where cricket and football may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is prepared at the college cafeteria. The college even has its own transport to ferry students to and from the campus. A convenience store is also located within campus. The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes.
Student training and placements are top priorities for the CTI. For this purpose, some value- added courses are imparted to the students, to make them more employable. training is provided on programmes such as Java, Oracle, PLC, Website Development, CATIA, Embedded Systems, Mobile Ap Development and a lot more. All this has led to respectable rankings across platforms. The Careers 360 magazine for instance has placed the CTI at AAA+ grade rating. The placements have likewise kept pace.
