difference between primary succession and secondary succession with examples
Answer (1)
Hi Divya!
The difference between primary succession and secondary succession is as follows:
- Primary succession starts from barren land and other occurs in a habitat where life existed previously.
- The former one takes 1000+ years to complete and the latter one takes around 50 to 200 years.
- As mentioned earlier that primary succession occurs on barren land which means conditions are least suitable for life and soil is devoid of all nutrients. On the other hand, secondary succession might include presence of soil and nutrients in it as life existed once.
- Examples for primary succession are : bare rocks, ponds, desert, lava filled lands etc. For secondary succession, the examples are the areas that are affected by natural calamities, covered under deforestation etc.
Thankyou!
