I will provide you information regarding this course. For becoming judge you require a law degree.
Having passed 10+2 or equivalent exam from a recognized board with a recommended minimum of 50% on aggregate for applying for this course.
Usually, candidates can seek an entry to this course through entrance exams. At some institutes, direct admissions are also taken. The entrance mode in this course is entrance test. The tests for admission are held on all India level as well as state.
The entrance tests for this purpose are CLAT, LSAT, and AILET.
After entrance, some institutes also conduct personal interviews for final selection.
There are a few institutes like C. Bhimasen Rao National College of Law, Karnataka which offer direct admission in this course on the basis of merit list.
Following are the subjects from which the questions are asked in all the entrance tests-
- Reasoning
- Legal Aptitude
- General Knowledge/Current Affairs
- Mathematics
- English
Finally, a counseling procedure takes place and seats are allotted on the basis of accumulated scores.

To become a judge, you need to have a law degree. You can take the Judiciary service paper for your respective state in order to join the subordinate judiciary and be appointed as the Judicial Magistrate of 2nd Class. Many aspirants usually start preparing at the time of their law schools and take the paper directly after completion of their degree. Some people clear it in their first attempt, some take more years.
The age limit is minimum 21 years and maximum 35 years.
It will consist of a preliminary exam, Mains exam, personal interview. The syllabus varies from state to state. So you will be required to focus on the law subjects and languages according to the syllabus.
For joining higher Judiciary, you would require a degree if law, a minimum number of years as practicing advocates which is usually around 7 years of practice.
