The Demystifying Biomedical Big Data: A User’s Guide program is a great stepping stone to inculcate learnings from the following areas:

  • Basic conceptual knowledge associated with Biomedical informatics by way of interviews at Georgetown University medical center
  • Get equipped with foundational aspects of the large quantum of data and their sources in the context of the Biomedical field upon conversing with subject matter experts
  • Application of the protocols that apply to translational research in a 2-part lecture series followed by a 3-part Cancer genome series
  • Working fundamentals associated with G-Doc with support from a lecture, demonstration, and a fruitful exercise
  • Incorporate the inputs from the DNA into the Big Data in a 3-part initiative that begins with a lecture, is supported with a demonstration, and terminates in an exercise
  • Deep dive into comprehending the working of the Gene expression via a specially curated lecture as well as the introduction to Micro RNA
  • Develop a robust foundation of how Protein sequences interact to affect the data so produced, covered in a 2-part lecture series along with Mass spec proteomics
  • Equip yourself with key differences between Metadata, Data Sharing, and Data formats
  • Put the knowledge of Systems Biology from a 2-part lecture series and a relatable Data Analysis demonstration into Big Data analytics

Who it is for

The Demystifying Biomedical Big Data: A User’s Guide program will add value to those in the following strata of their professional lives:

  • Biology students at the high-school or the graduate level aspiring to learn about Big Data in the context of the Biomedical arena.
  • Recent scientists and researchers looking to make a career in extracting and processing the large amount of data that is produced in laboratories and clinics.

Admission Details

The admission process for the Demystifying Biomedical Big Data: A User’s Guide’s certification is explained as follows:

1. Account login phase

Once you have made up your mind to enrol, please use the option from the top of the program page. At this point, you will be required to be logged in to your account. This can be achieved in one of two ways. The first way is to log in using your existing login credentials and the other is to create an account with edX by providing the first name, last name, a strong password, an email address, and a public username. In addition, please select the country of your current residence from the available drop-down menu.

2. Track selection phase

The program on Demystifying Biomedical Big Data has one of two tracks to choose from. Both of them are briefly introduced as follows:

  • The certification track: This track leads to an official certificate at the end from the partner institution. Hence, it is best for those students who would like to use their time and effort in this course to go into career development
  • Audit track: For those who would like to sample this program can do so for free, albeit with limited timed access to the program and the progress. This path is suggested for casual learners.

Please make a selection from one of the above two options and proceed.

3. Payment phase

This is the last step in the process and its applicability, broadly, depends upon your path selection in the previous step. They are explained as follows:

  • Those who opt to audit the program have no fees to pay. Only if they choose to upgrade their timed access to full-time access will they need to shell out the requisite fee.
  • Over to the certification track, the applicable certification fee needs to be paid using a credit card, American Express cards, as well as PayPal. Once the payment is successful, you will be redirected to the program access.
