Hey Poonam!
Whether you are taking the CAT, XAT, IIFT or TISS-NET, all the colleges give you time to submit the documents way after clearing the exam. You will be submitting somewhere in October or November. Whereas, you will join XLRI after clearing the exam by June. So, this much time is given to almost all the freshers. So, don't worry. And, being a fresher, I have gone through the same situation. And, I am telling you from my personal experience. Just think about clearing XAT for now, and getting XLRI. Best wishes!

Dear Vartika,
XAT is just a month away thus a 30-day preparation strategy for XAT is what you need at the moment. It is crucial to know the areas you need to focus on and how to move ahead with the preparations.
To begin with, brush up your basics. By now you must have gone through the basics of all the sections of paper 1 and 2. And if in the past you have had appeared for other MBA exams such as SNAP, CAT and IIFT then I am sure you must be well versed with topics and sections including, LR, DI, Quants and verbal. So now, all you will be left with is other sections and areas to work on. Here the key element is to focus on sharpening the basics of each section.
- Focus on exclusive areas- XAT has exclusive sections such as Essay writing anf GK which requires special preparation. Vinayak Kudva, Head PG, IMS India mentions, “XAT, in specific, has a section each on general awareness and essay writing. As these are not a part of the CAT or other major tests, students should immediately start practising for these specific topics. As for the rest of the sections, the concepts that students need to learn remains the same, though question types are different.”
-Practice Essay Writing – XAT is one of the few MBA entrance exams which is held in both objective and subjective patterns. You will be given 35 minutes to complete Paper 2, consisting of GK and Essay writing. If you think that you would crack the Essay Writing part with an impromptu attempt, you are wrong. Prepare for the essay writing by reading newspapers regularly and following the current trends, and practice writing within a specific time duration. Time must also be a crucial part of your preparation here, as not only you have to write an essay, you have to complete your GK part as well. The evaluators not only look for language skills, but also check the thought process, ideas, and your knowledge pertaining to the topic. Having a fair knowledge of the contemporary topics will give you an edge. So reading newspapers, especially the editorial columns, is highly advised,” shares Gautam Puri, Vice Chairman, Career Launcher.
