The Basic Course in Biomedical Research (BCBR) is an online, self-paced certification course for medical postgraduates and teachers. This postgraduate-level SWAYAM NPTEL course is offered by ICMR-National Institute of Epidemiology (ICMR-NIE), Chennai. BCBR exam is conducted eight time a year, in the months of March, April, May, July, August, September, November, and December. BCBR exam registration closes 30 dates before the exam date. Students are advised to check the BCBR course announcement page regularly to stay updated with exam-related information.
ICMR-National Institute of Epidemiology (ICMR-NIE) sends the BCBR admit card/hall ticket to students who are appearing for the exam over their email. Students can download the BCBR admit card 2026 via email. If students do not find the admit card for BCBR exam 2026, check their spam/junk folder. Students are advised to keep visiting the announcement page on the official website.
Students are required to score a minimum of 50% mark in every assignment to register for the final proctored exam. Out of 25 lectures, the first 23 lectures will have online assignments consisting of 10 Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) each.
After securing the minimum score of 50% in every assignment for 23 lectures, students will get the BCBR exam registration link for the next available date. To register for examination, the participant will have to fill-up an online form and pay the examination fees of Rs 1,000 online.
The city-wise list of examination centres will be made available at the time of registration. Securing a minimum score of 50% in the proctored exam of BCBR is necessary to receive the pass certificate.
BCBR results are generally released after 15-20 days of the exam date. The NPTEL BCBR Result 2026 for the exam held on April 12, 2026, was released on April 29, 2026. Candidates can check their BCBR results and download their scorecard on the NPTEL website using their registered email ID and password.
Students who pass the BCBR exam with a score of 50% or above will be awarded an e-verifiable course completion certificate.
Enrollment for BCBR opens throughout the year and there is no deadline for enrollment/submission of assignments. In the self-paced mode, the previous cycle assignment scores are not considered for the proctored exam.
The Online Basic course in Biomedical Research (BCBR) will explain the fundamental concepts of research methodology in health. Participants of BCBR will have access to course materials including video lectures, reading/resource materials, example accompaniments, workbooks, lecture handouts and frequently asked questions (based on participant queries from previous cycle). Certification will be done based on lecture wise assignments and a final proctored BCBR exam.
