    What is an NPTEL Certificate?

    The NPTEL certificate is proof of credibility for recruiters and employers that the candidate has in-depth knowledge in the specific area. The NPTEL certificate is provided to only those candidates who qualify for the NPTEL exam and submit assignments with the minimum passing marks. As NPTEL courses are offered by IITs and IISc, the NPTEL certificate is industry-recognised and widely accepted by top MNCs.

    Types of NPTEL Certificates

    The NPTEL certificate is divided into four categories, which are based on the performance of the candidate in the final proctored exam. Check the categories in which NPTEL certificates are provided in the table below.

    How to Download the NPTEL Certificate 2026?

    Candidates who successfully completed the NPTEL exam can check the steps to download the certificate below.

    • Visit the official NPTEL website or SWAYAM NPTEL portal
    • Login using your registered email ID and password.
    • Click on the “My Courses” section.
    • Select the course for which you took the exam.
    • If you have passed, the “Download Certificate” button will appear.
    • Click and save your NPTEL certificate in PDF format.

    Each NPTEL certificate has a unique certificate ID and verification link. It is mandatory to get the NPTEL certificate verified. Without verification, it is of no use. Check the steps to verify your certificate below.

    NPTEL Topper Parameters

    Many students aim to become NPTEL toppers, but the selection is based on certain parameters:

    • Assignment Score: Weightage of continuous assessments.
    • Final Exam Score: Proctored exam marks carry higher weight.
    • Overall Average: Both assignment and exam marks are combined.
    • Relative Performance: Toppers are chosen from the top scorers in a course.

    • A score of 60 per cent and above gives you an “Elite” tag.
    • The top 5 per cent of performers in each course are declared toppers.

    Eligibility Criteria for Earning an NPTEL Certificate

    To be eligible for an NPTEL certificate, learners must:

    • Register for the NPTEL course and for the NPTEL exam.
    • Complete assignments: Minimum assignment score is 10/25 (which is 40 per cent of 25 per cent weightage).
    • Appear for the final exam conducted at designated centres across India
    • Achieve a combined score of 40 per cent or above, calculated as: Final Score = 25 per cent Assignment Score + 75 per cent Final Exam Score

    Note: In case a candidate failed to appear for the exam or scored less than 40 per cent, then the NPTEL certificate will not be issued, even if all assignments are completed.
