Burdwan University has a placement cell that is dedicated to students to help them get placed. They conducts programmes to improve students' soft skills and hard skills through group discussions, mock interviews, webinars, seminars, and other things. Apart from placements, the cell also helps in providing students with internship opportunities as well to help them in gaining experience in industrial work culture and ensure better results during the final recruitment process.

The Burdwan University offer MSc programmes in 18 different subjects. The minimum marks for admission to the unreserved seats in M.A./M.Sc. course of studies under Faculty Council (Science) is 50% at the Honours level in the concerned/relevant subject from any UGC recognised University. For candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ OBC-A/ OBC-B/ DA/ SP categories, eligibility is minimum of 45% marks in honours in the concerned/relevant subject (including the relevant multidisciplinary subjects).

The Distance Education wing at Burdwan University is also known as Centre for Distance And Online Education(CDOE). The in-service teachers who have passed D.EL.Ed./D.Ed. programme face-to-face mode are eligible for admission in Burdwan University B.Ed (ODL) programme. Interested candidate must have completed a NCTE recognized teacher education programme through face-to-face mode. NCTE recognized  face-to-face teacher education programmes include Diploma in Preschool Education (DPSE), D.EL.Ed./D.Ed., B.El.Ed., B.Ed., M.Ed., D.P.Ed., B.P.Ed., M.P.Ed., Diploma in arts education (Visual Arts/Performing Arts), and B.A.B.Ed./B.Sc.B.Ed., among others.

Burdwan University's on-campus facilities include hostel facilities for boys and girls, a Health center with twenty-four hours health services, a library with a wide collection of books and e-resources, department-wise laboratories, canteen, and auditorium, among other things. The university has 11 hostels and also conducts various sports activities at the campus.

Burdwan University is feeding and nourishing more than 100 colleges and six graduate departments across six districts. These colleges are categorised into state aided, private non-aided and state government colleges. Some of the colleges affiliated with Burdwan University are Acharya Sukumar Sen Mahavidyalaya, Burdwan Raj College, Chandrapur College, Dasarathi Hazra Memorial College, Dr Bhupendra Nath Dutta Smriti Mahavidyalaya, Dr Gour Mohan Roy College, AMEX, AMEX Law College, Government General Degree College(Kalna) and Government General Degree College (Mangalkote).

The University of Burdwan has 45 departments organized into two academic departments. One academic department includes faculty councils of Art, Commerce, and Science, among others. While other academic departments include UGC-HRDC centres for motivating skills and knowledge, S.V.A.R.C advance research centre, National Service Scheme (NSS), Rural Technology Centre, Sports Board and the Department of Lifelong Learning.
