column BH SC ST etc in previous rank details shows general rank or category rank
When you see previous year rank details and you find columns like SC ST OBC BH or EWS these are not showing general ranks they are actually showing category-wise ranks this means if you belong to the SC category then you should only check the SC column and not the general one because the SC column shows the last rank of the SC category student who got admission in that college for that course in that round of counselling similarly the ST column will show the rank of the last ST student who got selected in that college for that course and in that particular counselling round the OBC column shows OBC category ranks and BH stands for a specific category like sometimes it means Blind or Handicapped depending on the college or state norms the general column which is usually written as UR or Open category shows the ranks of students who were selected without any reservation benefit it includes students from any category but who got admission in open category seats so if you are checking your chances for a seat and you belong to a reserved category then you must focus on your own category’s cutoff rank and not the general one because reserved seats are filled based on category ranks not general ranks for example if your rank is 5800 and you are SC then you will compare your rank with the last SC rank shown in the SC column if that is 6000 then you have a good chance but if it is 4500 then your chance is low sometimes reserved category students also get seats in general category if their rank is very good and they come in general cutoff too in that case their name appears in general column so it can also happen that one student’s name appears in two columns but seat allotment is always based on the highest preference first if a student can get a seat in general he or she is given that seat and the reserved seat is passed on to someone else in that category that’s how more students from the reserved category can get seats in that round but the main thing is that all these SC ST OBC BH columns are showing only the last admitted rank for that specific category and not the overall general rank so always check the correct column when you see cutoff lists and match it with your own category rank it will help you understand better whether you have a chance or not in that college or course .
