What is Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineering is a professional programme which helps students to understand the working mechanisms of heavy tools and machineries.  The branch applies principles of engineering, physics and material science for the design, analysis, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems. The course covers technical areas like distribution of electricity through generators, transformers, transmission lines, lighting and wiring in buildings. A course in mechanical engineering makes a student gain knowledge and experience in the designing of electric motors, automobiles, aircrafts and other heavy vehicles. Mechanical engineering demands knowledge about software used in technical work like computer-aided design and mathematical modelling.

Eligibility Criteria

  • For UG: Should have passed Class XII in Science stream with minimum 50% marks or equivalent CGPA.
  • For PG: Minimum CPI of 6.5 or 60% of marks or First Class in the qualifying degree. Bachelor's degree in Engineering and Technology.

Scope of Mechanical Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering covers aspects like design and testing among others. The job demands supervision and planning of live projects related to thermal power plants, nuclear stations, generation of electricity, etc.
  • There are employment opportunities for diploma holders who have practical knowledge of working on fields like testing of machinery etc.
  • The emerging fields in this area include renewable energy, automobiles, quality control, Industrial Automation, Mechanobiology. These are going to increase manpower in the work profile of mechanical engineering and would offer employment opportunities.

why mechanical have doesnt scope

Aditi Amrendra Student Expert 3rd Apr, 2020

See, every year in India lakhs (yes you heard it right) of engineering  aspirants become graduate and start searching for job.Its definitely not possible that every single one will get a job and that because there is not enough job and this is not just for mechanical engineering but for all the braches and that's why lots of engineering graduate start preparing for government jobs and startups.
Now, getting a job a depends a lot on your college too.Like if you can get admission into NITs,IIITs, or IITs then you will definitely get a job and in field of your choice. With that i mean that in top engineering colleges where lots of companies visit, they don't care about branch, they just care about the qualities of the candidates. In IITs even Investment banks and consultation firms offer jobs to Mechanical Engineers. So, this is something that you need to know that if you are good,hard-working student and capable enough to get a job then you will securely get a job.

I hope this helps.

In 2019 the cut off through GATE for M.Tech in Machine design for General category was 10897 for in CAD CAM was 8648.There are less chances that you may get seat in JNTU, Kakinada with your rank. But cut off is subjected to change it may increase or decrease slightly.

see the decision is depends on you and your choice of streams, there is many of engineering candidates who are in first year  are opting for jee main to get better colleges or different stream. according to students review delhi technological university is better then hbtu both in placement, curriculum structure and extra curricular activities.

Manidipa Kundu Student Expert 3rd Apr, 2020

see nits admission for btech course is done by jee main score and you can attempt jee main by 3 consecutive years starting from your passed year of 12th exam, since most of the companies allow 2 year education gap, so you will not face problem during placement,. there is many companies who wants talented candidates , who knows technical subjects and programming very well,

so right now you dont need to worry so much, just focus on your exam.
