This course is all about treatment and study diseases of animals and pets. Hence people who have genuine love and compassion for animals should go for the course. DURATION
The duration of this course including Animal Husbandry is of 5 years (including internship) like in Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bikaner, Rajendra Agricultural University, Samastipur and of 3 years without AH as in Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, National Research Centre on Mithun, Dimapur, Bombay Veterinary Science College, Mumbai. Although it is suggested to go for both B.V.Sc. and AH as it widens up the level of a veterinarian in terms of getting better job opportunities and experience.
ACADEMIC OPTIONS AFTER BACHELOR OF VETERINARY SCIENCE
After one is done with Bachelors in Veterinary Science, the person can look forward toMasters in Veterinary Science or MVSc, which is a 2 years course, to get a higher degree and deeper knowledge about veterinary concepts. There are around 50colleges in India that offer MVSc.
The basic eligibility for this course is10+2 with subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Englishwith a minimum of50% in aggregatefrom CBSE/ICSE/State Board or equivalent. Students who have appeared in 10+2 or any other intermediate level examination and are awaiting results, can also apply for the program and can be admitted on a provisional basis.
HOW TO GET ADMISSION IN BACHELOR OF VETERINARY SCIENCE [BVSC]
Admission to most veterinary colleges is given on the basis of results obtained in theentrance examinationconducted by the concerned universities. Veterinary Council of India conducts anAll India Pre Veterinary Test (AIPVT)for admission to first year of Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) & Animal Husbandry (AH) degree course for filling up seats of each veterinary college of all states including colleges like Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Bihar Veterinary College, Patna, Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, Bombay Veterinary Science College, Mumbai, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bikaner.This Entrance exam is usually held in the month ofMayeach year.
In 2017, the admission in BVSc courses were done on the basis ofNEET 2017Score.
However, there are some state level entrance exams also, through which admissions are given in the colleges of that particular state likeKerala Engineering Agricultural and Medical Entrance Testthat is for the colleges of Kerala.
