GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. It is a gateway to admission for Master's and PhD programs. And also job opportunities in several PSUs. You'll give GATE exam in the final year of your Bachelor's course. So don't worry about it now. You can prepare for the exam in the four year of your BTech/BE.
GATE is an online national level examination conducted for Master of Engineering (ME), Masters in Technology (MTech) and direct PhD admissions to IITs, NITs, IIITs and other institutions in India. Right after 12 th I would suggest you to focus on your undergraduate studies. Start making projects that would have a weighted value on your resume. You can prepare for GATE during your 4 th year of undergraduate. At the very earliest you can prepare for GATE from your second year by clearing the basic concepts and then start solving previous year questions from third year onwards. If you have good grasp over the basic concepts of your core subjects you can crack GATE with good score and rank. So focus on your studies from your first year onwards.
