The first step to become a law teacher is knowing that you want to become one, and after that you are on the right track.
Law is as a career is very lucrative and is growing in popularity every single year with a number of law school aspirants giving exams such as CLAT, SET and LSAT and many other exams that are offered by law schools. The law schools in India offer both 3 year and 5 year courses. Thus, one can apply to colleges based on your preference.
A career as a law teacher is filled with challenges as one has to cope up with both teaching and explaining law. It requires someone with a lot of brilliance and zeal.
The courses that you will have you complete will be on the basis of eligiblity that various law schools wants in their teachers.
The first step towards it is to have an undergraduate degree that you can get by studying any bachelor degree course then you need to complete your L.L.B from the colleges offering them. You can do both simultaneously with a 5 year law degree course that includes bachelors degree as well.
Then you need to pursue your masters in law or LLM.
There are various NLUs that offer L.L.M as well.
Lastly you need to clear NET or National Eligiblity Test in order to become a professor of Law.
Various universities have different eligiblity criteria but here are some general criteria for becoming a law teacher.
The post of Assistant professor of Law requires at least 55%marks in the LL.M. Degree. The national eligibility test (NET) is also compulsory to be cleared.
The post of Professor of law requires a Ph.D. degree along with the above mentioned criterias.
Some universities like NLUs also require a minimum teaching experience in law colleges.
I would also advise you to choose your specialisations carefully based on your interest and opt for various teaching internships which will make you much more experienced.
I hope my answer was helpful. Best of luck for your endeavors.
