what is photophosho rylayion,plz tell
Hello
photophosphorylation takes place in thylakoid membrane.peter mitchel gave the chemosmotic hypothesis. In this process ADP+Pi gets converted into ATP.In presence of light proton motive force generates in thylakoid membrane that is one of main cause behind this phenomenon. proton motive force generates because of reason mentioned below-
pH gradient/proton gradient- In the lumen surface proton is higher i.e,pH acidic and to the stromal surface proton less thus pH is alkaline.this creates Proton motive force.
thylakoid membrane is impermeable to H+ ions, the proton diffuses through ATP synthase enzyme this cause activation of the enzyme and ultimately ATP synthesis takes place.
THANK YOU!
I guess you are asking about photophosphorylation , let us first try to understand what it is phosphorylation, phosphorylation is a biochemical process and involves the addition of phosphate to an organic compound.
For example, the addition of phosphate to glucose to produce glucose monophosphate and the addition of phosphate to adenosine diphosphate (ADP) to form adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is phosphorylation.
Coming to photophosphorylation, in the process of photosynthesis, the phosphorylation of ADP to form ATP using the energy of sunlight is called photophosphorylation.
Thus , in simple words we can say that photophosphorylation is the conversion of ADP to ATP using the energy of sunlight.
I hope that it helps you
