Hello Aspirant

Seeing your marks, it is evident you are good in academics. Thus, you can get into a good MBA college but mind you, it won't be easy because there are thousands of students who are as good as you, if not better. MBA colleges do not choose candidates solely based on academic performance, although it has a big weightage in their selection process. They test your presence of mind, intellect, and communication skills through Group Discussions and Interviews.

The safest way to get into a good MBA college is to score 96-97+ percentile and do really well in GD and  PI. Top MBA colleges in India are IIMs, XISS (Ranchi), TISS, Delhi School of Business, and Symbiosis.

Hope this helps

Hello aspirant,
The CAT exam syllabus is not officially prescribed, but it generally includes topics from the following sections:

1. Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC)
2. Data interpretation and logical reasoning
3. Quantitative ability

  • Arithmetic

  • Algebra

  • Geometry and Mensuration

  • Number System

  • Modern Math

Hello Aspirant

Seeing as you had a gap of 2 years, it will be very difficult to get into a top MBA college. This is because of two reasons-

(1) Top MBA colleges demand a work experience of a minimum 2-5 years. They rarely accept a fresher into their institutions (IIM A, IIM B, IIM C, etc.) They demand experienced candidates, ones who have worked with good and well-known companies. With zero experience, it'll be difficult to get admission, whether you have a drop year or not.

(2) Since you have a gap of 2 years, it'll be difficult to explain how you used or utilized it in your favor. Colleges, especially MBA colleges need a good enough reason for your drop to admit you into their institution. In their Interview round, they'll continuously ask you questions about that.

I would still suggest you appear for the CAT exam and score really well (6 percentile and above), because if you have a high percentile in the exam and really good academic background, they'll be forced to admit you to their institution.

Hope this helps, All the best!

For VARC, read daily from diverse sources (newspapers, novels, journals) to improve comprehension and vocabulary. Practice RC passages and verbal ability questions regularly. For DILR (Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning) and QA (Quantitative Aptitude), solve previous years' papers and take mock tests to identify weak areas. Join a coaching institute or online courses for guidance and stay consistent with your study schedule. Review and analyze your performance in mocks to understand mistakes and improve. Maintain a positive mindset and stay disciplined in your preparation.

Hello Aspirant,

Yes, you can sit for the CAT exam with a CGPA of 8.5. However when you do crack the CAT exam and have to sit for the interview round or the Group discussion round, you will be asked the question about 4 years of graduation, in which case, carry your hospital records and medical certificates to prove to them that you actually had some health issues during your graduation. This shouldn't be a problem because you had a genuine reason for the one-year gap.

Hello Aspirant

Who said you don't English? You wrote your problem on CAREERS360 with minimal grammar mistakes, this proves you have your basics clear in English. You can absolutely clear CAT with one year of preparations. Start your preparations from the day you decide you want to clear CAT.

Tips to improve English-

1) Start reading novels, poems, prose, news articles, and short stories. Reading helps you work on your vocabulary a lot. Never stop reading, whatever interests you.

2) Watch Hollywood movies, YouTube interviews in English with subtitles on.

3) Read WORD MADE EASY by Norman Lewis. This book is the Holy Grail for any CAT aspirant.

4) Think in English. I know many people say 'speak in English' but I know it's not easy for us Indians to find people who are willing to in English with us and we don't feel comfortable when we are not confident. But start thinking in English. This proved to help me a lot.

Hope this helps

Hello,

Getting admission to an IIM without taking the CAT is possible through alternative routes such as:

1. Executive MBA (PGPX,EPGP,ect .)  : Many IIMs offer Executive MBA programs for experienced professionals, which may require GMAT scores instead of CAT .

2.Integrated programs: Some IIMs offer integrated programs like IPM (Integrated Program in Management), where admission cab be based on entrance exams other than CAT.

3.Doctoral programs (Ph.D.): Some IIMs accept GMAT/GRE scores for their doctoral programs .

4. Specialized Courses: IIMs offer various short-term and ccertificate programs that don't require CAT scores.

Check the specific IIM websites for detailed admission criteria and processes for these programs .
