Major
In India, the option of pursuing a double major in Humanities and Social Sciences is slowly expanding, mainly under the flexible curriculum structure introduced by the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. While traditional universities still follow single-major systems, several institutions now allow interdisciplinary combinations or structured double major programmes.
Central Universities and Public Institutions Some central universities have adopted multiple major or interdisciplinary degree frameworks. Universities like Delhi University (under NEP), Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Hyderabad and Central University of Rajasthan allow students to combine subjects from humanities and social sciences such as History, Political Science, Sociology, Economics, Philosophy or Psychology. In many cases, this works as a major–minor or dual discipline structure rather than a formally titled “double major,” but academically it serves a similar purpose.
Private Universities with Structured Double Majors Private universities are currently more flexible and student-friendly for double majors. Institutions such as Ashoka University, Azim Premji University, Krea University, FLAME University, OP Jindal Global University and Ahmedabad University offer well-defined double major options. Students can combine subjects like Economics with Sociology, Psychology with Political Science, History with International Relations, or Philosophy with Public Policy. These universities follow a liberal arts model where double majors are encouraged and well supported.
Integrated and Liberal Arts Colleges Some autonomous and liberal arts colleges also allow interdisciplinary degree pathways. Colleges under the liberal arts framework focus on broad-based education and allow students to design their academic path across humanities and social sciences. These programmes are suitable if you are interested in research, civil services, public policy, social sector careers or higher studies abroad.
Points to Keep in Mind Not all universities officially use the term “double major.” In many cases, it may be offered as a major with a strong minor or dual discipline degree. You should carefully check subject combination rules, credit requirements and faculty availability. Admissions are usually based on Class 12 marks, CUET scores, or university-specific entrance tests depending on the institution.
Overall, if you are specifically looking for a true double major in humanities and social sciences, private liberal arts universities currently provide the best and most structured options, while central universities offer increasing flexibility under NEP for interdisciplinary study.
All the best for choosing a programme that matches your academic interests and long-term goals.
If you have completed a BSc General from IGNOU with Physics, Botany and Zoology, then your eligibility for MSc Physics mainly depends on whether the university requires Mathematics at the 10+2 or graduation level. Most universities clearly mention that candidates must have studied Physics and Mathematics together during their degree. Even if you have a good understanding of mathematics, institutions consider only your formal academic subjects for eligibility.
Still, there are some private universities and autonomous institutes that allow students without a mathematics background, as long as they clear the entrance exam. Another practical option is to complete a Mathematics bridge course or certificate course from IGNOU or any recognized university. Many institutes accept this as fulfilling the maths requirement. If you want to continue in physics, doing such a bridge course and then applying for MSc Physics, MSc Applied Physics or MSc Electronics would improve your chances. All the best.
To get selected in the MEXT Scholarship, you need to follow a clear multi-stage process. First, you must meet the eligibility criteria related to academics, age, and nationality according to the category you are applying for, such as undergraduate, research or teacher training. The next step is submitting the application form along with documents like transcripts, research plans or study plans to the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in your country. After document screening, shortlisted candidates are called for a written examination, which usually tests English, Japanese and subject-related knowledge depending on the scholarship type. If you clear the written test, you will then face an interview conducted by the embassy panel to check your motivation, academic potential and suitability for studying in Japan. Candidates who pass all these stages are recommended to MEXT, and the final selection is made by the Japanese government. Maintaining a strong academic record, writing a clear study or research plan and performing well in the test and interview significantly increase your chances. All the best!

Hello,
Cutoffs for the BA Political Science (Major) and Economics (Minor) combination at Delhi University vary significantly by college, and specific cutoffs are not released for the combination but are based on the overall CUET score. For the 2024-2025 academic year, expect cutoffs to be highest for top-tier colleges like Miranda House and Hindu College and lower for colleges such as Bhagini Nivedita College and Motilal Nehru College (Evening).
I hope it will clear your query!!
Yes , if you studied tamil as your major subject you can still apply for CTET exam. You just need to meet the eligibility rules , like having the required teaching qualifications.
Hi Chahat!
Two major causes of economic recession, according to your class 10th textbooks:
Fall in Demand – When people stop buying goods and services due to less income or confidence in the economy, businesses earn less, leading to job cuts and further slowdown.
Decline in Investment – When companies and industries reduce their investments due to uncertainty or losses, production and employment go down, which negatively impacts the economy.
These factors create a cycle of reduced spending and production, leading to a recession.
For more clarity, please read your textbooks.
All the best!
Hello Dear candidate,
The choice between mtech in Control Instrumentation and mtech in Chemical Engineering totally depends on your interest or career goal. If you are interested in designing and operation of chemical processes, you should go for chemical engineering. While if your interest lies in automation, measurement, or control system across different engineering fields, you should go for Control Instrumentation. While, Chemical engineering provides borad and more job opportunities, Control and instrumentation roles may offer higher Starting salary in certain sectors. But the pay between these two heavily depends on institute, company, location, experience and role.

For Indian Forest Service, the minimum eligibility is a bachelor’s degree in subjects like Animal Husbandry, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, or Agriculture/Forestry/Engineering from a recognized university. Since your degree is in Mathematics, that part is fine, but if your university isn’t recognized, then you won’t be considered eligible. You’ll need the degree from a UGC-recognized university.
