Materials science is a broad field and you can get job in almost any industry.
You can end up working as a corrosion engineer or materials Engineer in oil and Gas.
You can be work as a polymer materials Engineer and work in large polymer companies.
You could work as a reliablity engineer or materials Engineer in semiconductors.
You can work as a materials scientist in biomedical engineering.
You can also work as a materials Engineer in aerospace industry.
You could end up working as a manufacturing sector as a materials Engineer responsible for production, selection of new materials etc.,
On a similar note, you could work as a materials Engineer in automotive industry.
The good thing about materials Engineer is that you can work in almost any industry. The bad thing is that very specific skill set is required. On top of that at least in USA, if you are an international student on visa, getting job is almost next to impossible as foreign nationals cannot be hired in defense sector or any contractor working for defense sector due to ITAR restrictions.
