Describe the tribal groups of India

A tribe is a social division in a traditional society consists of family linked by social, economic, religious,or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect.

The tribe possess certain qualities and characteristics that makes a unique culture, social and political entity.
The major tribes in India are called as Adivasis.
.
The government recognized the tribal communities under the schedule 5 of the constitution.hence tribes recognized by the constitution are called scheduled Tribes.There are 645 distinct tribes in all over India.

There are 4 major tribal group in India:

1) The Bodos of Assam:
The Bodos are one of the prominent tribe in Assam and belong to bodo Kachari clan.Bodos originate From the edges of the Brahmaputra valley and they are amongst most progressive tribes in India. The Bodos are an uneducated tribe and therefore, they are financially unstable
They primarily undertake tea plantation activities. They work in tea estates of Assam and major source of earnings for them
Traditionally the Bodos used to work with there forefathers and today they accepted Hinduism as there primary religion and they practice bathouism

2) The khasis of Meghalaya
The khasis or hyniew trep resides in North eastern part of india comprising 50% population of megalaya.They resides in khasi hill,pnars hills etc.
There occupation is doing jhum cultivation or shifting cultivation.khasi men and women were colourful bamboo hats while they are wearing.

3) The bhils of Rajasthan:
The bhils belong to Mewar region of the state.bhils means bow and bhil tribes are archers by profession.
Bhils also reside in Gujarat, Maharashtra,MP and Tripura.
Bhils depends on agriculture for all there economic needs .They undertake slash and burn cultivation.
Bhils used to live on isolated hill tops for quite some time.They would always be in temporary settlements.
4) The bishnois of Rajasthan:
Here After an acute famine and drought that occurred in Barmer district of Rajasthan in 1471, a saint guru Jambaji preached the wisdom of understanding the environment.guru jambaji laid down twenty nine doctrines which people should follow.
Later the ruler of jodhpur wanted a forest cleared to build a palace. The bishnois prevented the soldiers cutting down the trees at that time many of bishnois got killed.
Till today they protect the trees.The black buck which is endangered species , is found in bishnois villages.
