Both the dropping patterns are relatively good for different students. Some students crack the examination with a partial drop where as some students can't clear with a full year drop. So its all about how you manage your persistence in preparation.
Now the partial drop have a advantage in terms of time conservation. If you don't even clear the JEE then also there is no case of year lag as you will be doing some course. But if you take a full drop and then if you can't clear then a year gets completely wasted. Now for full drop, the benefit is that you can focus your entire time on studies.
As a result, both of the choices have there own advantage and disadvantage. What you need to choose is based on your feelings about the management of time factors for either cases.
