Hello what is food technology all about?,what's about salary and opportunities?which companies do give jobs?
Hello Swaggy,
Food technology is a branch in the bachelor of science (B.Sc.) which is an undergraduate course of three years and it deals with the techniques involved in preserving, processing, and manufacturing of food. This course has a combination of engineering, hotel management, home science and food science.
As far as the salary is considered it ranges between 2-3 lakhs per annum for the beginners and can increase with experience.
The job opportunities are quite nice as the competition is not high. You can do various jobs such as marketing, sales, new product development, quality analyst, researcher, food consultant etc.
There are many companies giving jobs for food technology and a few of them are Agro Tech Food, Britannia industries LTD., Amul etc.

Hello Swaggy,
Food Technology deals with a blend of physical, chemical or microbiological techniques and processes for transforming raw ingredients into food and also other forms in food processing industry.
Food processing refers to converting the raw ingredients into edible components or transforming food into other edible forms. BE/B. Tech in Food Technology is a 4-year program. Food Technology deals with the various chemical processes that food products undergo to make them consumable and ready to market. Food processors typically take clean, harvested crops or butchered animal products and use them to produce attractive, marketable food products with long shelf-life. Similar processes apply to animal feed. You can pursue M. Tech in Food Technology after successful completion of BE/B.Tech.
Though Food Science Food Engineering and Food Technology are very overlapping, there are few subtle differences. I am not going to get into too many details on this.
Eligibility Criteria for Admission in Civil Engineering
For pursuing B. Tech course in Food Technology a student should have 50 percent marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 10+2. Students aspiring to pursue the Master level course need to have completed B. E./B. Tech. in Food Science/ Food Science and Technology/ Food Technology and Management/ Food Technology/ Food Process Engineering/ Food Engineering/ Dairy Engineering/ Dairy Technology/ Agricultural & Food Engineering/ Dairy and Food Engineering, from a recognized institute with a minimum aggregate score of 45 - 50%.

Career in Food Technology
There is plenty of scope available in food technology. The key scopes are given below:
As organic chemists, food technologist advises on the methods by which the raw materials have to be converted into processed food.
As biochemists, they suggest improvements in flavour, texture, storage, and quality.
As home economists, they become the expert in dietetics and nutrition and they test the food and recipes according to the directions on the containers.
As engineers, they are required for planning, designing, improving and maintaining the processing systems.
As research scientists, they carry out experiments regarding improvement in yield, flavour, nutritive value and general acceptability of the packaged food.
As managers and accountants, they manage administration and the finances apart from supervising the processing work.

Need of Food Science and Technology
Food is essential for all forms of life; and humans need food for survival. Like shelter, clothes, education and healthcare, food is also a basic necessity for mankind.
Majority of the food items are biological in origin. The process of harvesting, processing, distribution, storage and preparation is quite complex. Understanding the process, and solving various problems during the whole process, requires broad-based knowledge and training.
Food scientists are responsible for making safe and nutritious food along with innovative packaging, and that also in abundance. Thus, Food Scientists allow us to make the best use of our food resources and minimize waste of resources.
There has been a tremendous evolution of food system worldwide, thanks to food science and technology (read more). Processed food items are more convenient to consume, and more importantly can be more tasty and healthy as well.
Thanku.
