How does councelling happen, reason I missed my last year was not known,so please help me

The admission to various IIT/NIT/GFTI/IIEST is done on the basis of JEE MAINS mark through JOSAA counselling.

After the announcement of the result of JEE ADVANCED, JOSAA counselling begins.

Now the procedure of JOSAA COUNSELLING IS

There will be a online portal on jee main website you need to register for JOSAA counselling through its portal.

Then you will be asked to fill the colleges and branches of your choice in your preferenced order.

Then there will two mock rounds to make you understand josaa procedure.

After josaa counselling mock rounds,  original round will start.

You will be allotted a seat in first round based upon your rank and your preference list( choice filling).

For eg you have filled three choice like A, B, C.
and you are eligible for every choice you have filled.
But you will get choice A because you have given it priority over other choices.

After allotment of seat in first round you will need to report to reporting centre.  Then there will be three choices.

1)locking of seat
2)floating
3)sliding
4)withdrawing of seat

Locking means the seat will be allotted to you and you won't participate in next rounds. As josaa is 7 round process.

Floating means you will participate in next rounds and  you will be allotted a seat which is at higher position of your preference list.

Sliding means you will get only those options of your choice which has same college.
For eg you have filled NIT TRICHY CS, NIT TRICH MECHANICAL AND NIT WARANGAL MECHANICAL.

If you got NIT TRICHY  MECHANICAL in first round and chose sliding option then you can only get those choices which will have NIT TRICHY that is now you can only get NIT TRICHY CS not nit warangal whether you are eligible for it or not it doesn't matter.

Withdrawing means you dont want to participate in next rounds

Now you can lock your seat in any of the 7 rounds.

You need to visit reporting centre only twice that is Round 1 and Round 7. If you wish to participate in all 7 rounds of Josaa counselling.

In rounds 2-6 you can lock, float, slide, withdraw your seat just by using online portal.
