In order to master organic chemistry you need regular PRACTICE and REVISION. Candidates must start their preparation with the basic concepts of organic which is important and scoring. Experts always suggest understanding the mechanisms rather than learning things. Mugging up isn't going to help, you'll forget things easily. In fact, understanding mechanism is the most crucial part in organic chemistry.
Recommended books for preparation are organic chemistry by Morrison & Boyd, Reaction mechanism in Organic Chemistry Parmar and Chawla and Organic Chemistry Francis Carey (TMH).
