You can still give JEE Mains, April attempt in 2020. JEE is conducted twice a year and this attempt is January attempt and you can give another attempt at JEE in April.
There is no other way to get admission into NITs other than JEE mains. Here are details about the April attempt:

There's no need to worry at all even if you didn't fill jee mains January session application form as jee mains is conducted twice a year so you can apply for Jee mains april session 2020 and then qualify it with good marks /rank and then you can take admission in NITs. The april session of jee mains will be conducted from april 3 to 9 . NTA will open the online registration from 7th February to 7th March , 2020.
