Describe Thomson's model of the atom. What were its limitations?
Thomson's model, often called the "plum pudding" or "watermelon" model, proposed that an atom is a positively charged sphere with electrons embedded in it, like plums in a pudding.
Limitations: It failed to explain the results of Rutherford's alpha-particle scattering experiment and did not account for the stability of the atom or the existence of spectral lines.
