My NID common rank is 717 and category rank is 252. How is my score and are there any chances?
Hi Anushka,
First of all, I would like to congratulate you for your NID DAT prelims result. As you have a category rank you will be considered for admission based upon that, and not the common merit list.
The number of seats specified for this year will not be less than three times the number of seats available for a particular category in that field or discipline. So in that case, the number of seats is 100, three times of it is 300, which means only 300 students will be qualified into mains. You stand a good chance of qualifying into mains , as your score is below 300. The number of seats reserved for general candidates is 50, OBC-NCL 27, SC 15 and ST is 8 respectively. Usually not only you there will be other candidates before you who would have secured the same rank, in that case tie breaker are applied.
Marking and tie breaker criteria:
Candidates are scored according to their performance if two candidates have the same marks, then the candidate with higher marks in part B is given rank, if the tie remains unresolved then the part A marks is considered, if the tie still remains then the candidates are assigned the same rank.
The DAT main merit list will be released after the mains stage, on May 1. The list will be calculated based upon the sum total of the weighted scores obtained by the candidate at each stage of the admission process. The tie breaker will be processed accordingly,
- Candidates with higher marks in DAT Main will get the higher rank.
- Candidate who has secured higher marks in Stage 1 Design Aptitude Test Part B will be awarded the higher rank.
- The higher rank will be assigned to those candidates who has obtained higher marks in Stage 1 Design Aptitude Test Part A in case of an unresolved tie still exists.
- Finally, higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has secured higher marks in the DAT Mains exam question with maximum marks.
The section B has high importance so, a candidate could be selected based upon it when tie persists, in the most cases a variation is seen in part B which brings forth a lot of change in the selection criteria.
For the main exam candidate will be based on practical test like sketching or drawing, modelling, presentation, group discussions, etc.
Syllabus for main:
- Portfolio making
- 3D Modeling
- Creative Thinking
- Doodling
- Audio-visual experience
- Observation Test
- Material Manipulation
- Body Language
The main is designed in such a manner to test your ability to think creatively in a impromptu situation, understanding and level of execution of the problem.
Studio Test: You will be given a certain time in which you would have to model/draw out the asked problem/situation with creativity, fresh approach. You will be judged based up on your speed, time and quality of work produced in the stipulated time.
Portfolio: It’s not something you build over a week or so, show your uniqueness by taking up ideas or problems near you and shape it into a work of art. Let your uniqueness celebrated through your ideas and work. A good 5 to 10 ideas are good for showcasing your work.
Interview: Just be yourself, relax, attentive and be confident in what you say and do.
The weightage for prelims is 30 % and mains is 70%. The important part is studio test and personal interview, based upon which the final result of selection is declared.
All the best! Hope this answers your doubt.
