Question : Study the given table and answer the following question.
Population data from a village in five consecutive years
YEARS | POPULATION | Man: Woman |
2000 | 143 | 7 : 4 |
2001 | 145 | 3 : 2 |
2002 | 128 | 5 : 3 |
2003 | 136 | 9 : 8 |
2004 | 150 | 12 : 12 |
As per the data above, the number of men in 2003 is what percentage more or what percentage less than the number of women in the same year?
Option 1: 15% more
Option 2: 12.5% more
Option 3: 12.5% less
Option 4: 15% less
Correct Answer: 12.5% more
Solution :
Total Population in the year 2003 is 136
Men in the year 2003
= $\frac{9}{9 + 8}$ × 136
= 72
Number of women in same year = 136 – 72 = 64
Percentage Difference = $\frac{\text{Number of men - Number of women}}{\text{Number of women}}$ × 100
= $\frac{72 - 64}{64}$ × 100
= $\frac{100}{8}$
= 12.5%
Hence, the correct answer is 12.5% more.
