Hello,
Lyman and Balmer series are a part of the hydrogen spectrum.
The emission spectrum of atomic hydrogen ahs been divide into spectral series with the wavelengths given by Rydberg formula. These observed spectral lines are due to the transition of electron between the energy levels.
Lyman series: The transition of electron from 2,3,4,5,...........n energy level to 1st shell is known as Lyman series. It is the jump from or to the ground level.
Balmer series: The transition from or the 2nd energy level is Balmer series.
The other series are:
- Lyman
- Balmer
- Paschen
- Brackett
- Pfund
- Humphrey
