What is the scope of toxicology?
Hi,
Toxicology is a multidisciplinary science that deals with the study of harmful actions of chemical substances on biological material. Coming to the scope of toxicology, it is very wide and contains three main categories:
1.Environmental(Pollution, residues, industrial hygiene);
2.Economic(Medicines, Food, Food Additives, Pesticides, dyestuffs, Chemicals);
3.Forensic(Intoxication, diagnosis, therapy).
Its main goal is to contribute to the general knowledge of the harmful actions of chemical substances, to study their mechanisms of action, and to estimate their possible risks to humans on the basis of experimental work on biological test systems. An overall assessment of natural or man-made chemical substances consists of acute, subacute and chronic toxicity studies, mutagenecity, carcinogenecity, and teratogenecity studies. It also has a series of specially designed experiments. I hope all your queries are clarified. Any other queries related to toxicology are always welcome.
I think it helps you!!!
Keep Smiling:)
Wish you Good Luck!:)
