The AISEE i.e. All India Scholarship Entrance Examination is of two types which the candidate can opt for:

AISEE Entrance Test : This will include the entrance exam for medical and non-medical students according to their syllabus, which is officially mentioned. Scholarships would be given on merit basis.

AISEE Open Book Exam : This lets you take the help of a text book or study material you have been studying. The only condition is that only one book per subject is allowed at once. Students can take their own study material to write the exam.

The difference is that in an open book exam, the candidates can check their answers in the material so they don't have to mug up facts but should know the basic information. Students have a second chance to acquire information and can also absorb relevant learning material instead of losing it. But if you are not prepared, open-book exams can be very time-consuming. So if you are gooding scanning your material and connecting concepts to applications, then open book is for you. It can confuse you more as well, depending on your way of understanding things. I would suggest evaluate that and then choose.

The main aim of AISEE is to provide scholarships to those students who are talented in the feild of Engineering or medical. It is mainly for those family which is not financially strong and who cannot afford the higher studies of their students.

Open Book test is a test which allows the applicants to give the test with the help of opening their text book/study material which he/she has been studying. They are evaluated on the basis of their understanding of subject concepts instead of their memorising power. It creates critical and creative thinking skills among the students. Normal test is conducted normally without opening of book.

In the both open book is some what better than normal exam.
