Course Overview

This course, offered under the NPTEL program which is run by Swayam and is funded by MoHRD. It is aimed at teaching the basics of mechanics, essential in most streams of sciences and engineering studies at the undergraduate level. The course consists of topics in computational mechanics, mechanical engineering, computational engineering, advanced dynamics and vibration, advanced mechanics.

Engineering Mechanics is the subject that forms a foundational knowledge base for those interested in mechanical engineering. All the concepts taught in this course are required to study subjects like Strength of Materials, Theory of Machines, Machine Design, FEA, Mechanical Vibration, etc., which is basically every subject in Mechanical Engineering.

Concepts of engineering mechanics ranging from production technology to design sciences to thermal sciences are used everywhere in this field. It is very important that you take the subject seriously if you wish to pursue Mechanical Engineering. This course will give you the basic knowledge required to apply the principles taught during this course to solve engineering mechanics problems.
