A state-run engineering school in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, called the Institute of Engineering and Rural Technology was founded in 1955. One of India's oldest and most prestigious schools, it provides B.Tech degrees in addition to several Diploma programmes in a variety of disciplines.

The IERT provides three-year engineering/technology diploma programmes. These credentials are available in a number of fields, including plastic technology, mechanical engineering, and civil engineering.
