What if BFA in industrial design?. Is it offered by BHU? What ate the job opportunities? Please help am in a lot of confusion.
Dear Vinayak,
BFA is Bachelor of Fine Arts whereas industrial design is an engineering discipline. The undergraduate degree is known as Bachelor of Design or BDes. IIT BHU does not offer BDes. For BDes (Industrial Design) you can try IIT Bombay. The selection is through an entrance exam called UCEED. You can study any subject in 10+2 like Humanities or Science and still apply for UCEED. You can also opt for a dual degree program, that is, an undergraduate program plus a postgraduate program (BDes+ MDes). BDes is a 4-year program while BDes+MDes is of 5 years.
There are a lot of job opportunities as India produces less than 10,000 professional designers a year and we need at least 60,000 designers by 2020. Industrial Design incorporates other disciplines as well, product Design, Transport or Automobile Design. Industrial designers basically specialise in one of the products close to their heart, say, for example, automobile design.
Rest assured, studying Industrial Design is a very good option, where getting a good job that pays well is always a possibility. Hope your confusion is now over! Best of Luck!
I havent heard of BFA in industrial design actually since the B.Des programmes usually cover it and not the BFA programmes in India. As for BHU, it offers a 4 year BFA but definitely not in Industrial Design. It is offered in
Painting
Applied Arts
Pottery & Ceramics
Textile Design
As BFA is not offered in industrial designs, I cant specify any job opportunities.
