    Synopsis

Pursuing an MBA is a popular choice for many students after graduation. However, in recent years, MBA after Class 12 has become popular as well. The five-year integrated MBA after Class 12 is for those who wish to avoid working on a different undergraduate programmes and the rat race for CAT and instead take the path of a direct MBA after 10+2. In fact, it is possible to join even an IIM straight out of school. Here is where the programme is offered and how it works.

As per All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), more than four lakh students opt for a career in management every year in more than 3,000 institutes across the country.

The traditional route is to complete graduation and then appearing for Common Admission Test (CAT) or other national-level exams such as Xaviers Aptitude Test (XAT), Management Aptitude Test (MAT) and Common Management Admission Test (CMAT). However, this is unappealing to many and for them, there’s a new option – MBA after Class 12.

This promises to fetch students a good career in management, excellent business skills, high salaries and perks, international exposure and opportunities, and a good corporate network.

    What Is An Integrated MBA?

A five-year course, the integrated MBA course is a combination of BBA and MBA, aimed at imparting managerial skills, business expertise, and technical understanding of business. Students pursuing an Integrated MBA have a comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of business management and the opportunity to pursue chosen areas of specialization.

MBA After Class 12: Advantages, Disadvantages

While an unusual choice, there are certain advantages to the integrated MBA. Here are a few:

    1. While the more common path for a Class 12 student opting for a management course is a Bachelor’s of Business Administration (BBA) followed by an MBA, an Integrated MBA programme is a combination of both

    2. Students can avoid the multiple entrance tests to get into MBA

    3. Time, money and effort saved, not just on the entrance exams, but also on studying similar subjects twice, first at the undergraduate level and then at the postgraduate level.

    4. Candidates can kick start their careers with internships and infield projects thus gaining practical experience.

The only drawback – and this is a major one – is that a student may have no option to look at any other PG course. The value of the degree comes with the MBA part more than the BBA one.

MBA after Class 12: Eligibility Criteria

It is wise to always refer to the prospectus of the respective institutions to know the specific eligibility criteria for an integrated MBA. However, common criteria for MBA after 10+2 are:

    • Candidates must have completed 10+2 in any stream from a recognized institute

    • They should have secured a minimum 60 percent aggregate in Class 12

    • Students who are appearing for Class 12 exams are also eligible to apply provided they fulfill the criteria of passing at the time of admission
