Well my friend I can't give you a formula of getting a seat into iim but yes as mentioned by many, CAT (Common AdmissionTest) is one of the toughest exam to crack. It is the gateway to getting into prestigious IIMs and other top B-schools of India. A lot of CAT aspirantsask me how to prepare for CAT. Here I amsharing a few tips which I feel helped me in cracking this exam.
Understand the syllabus
This is a useful tip for almost any exam. Understand the syllabus by going through past years papers and official guidelines. CAT can be segmented into four broad parts-
Quantitative Ability
Data Interpretation
Logical Reasoning
Verbal Ability
The concepts used in this examination are broadly of class 10 level. However, the questions are little bit tricky to solve and require good amount of logical thinking. Butit can be developed by practice.
Build your Basics
In the first 2-3 months focus on the few basic concepts you need to be familiar with for taking CAT 2017. Building the basics should be the first step according to Sanuj Mittal, 100 percentiler in CAT.
Solve Practice questions & Sectional Mocks
Pranjal Agarwal, 100 percentiler in CAT 2015 suggests that even before you start preparing, solve practice questions of Mathematics and Statistics online. The questions are available on various websites like Brilliant.org; MBAUniverse.com among others.
If you find that you are weak in a particular section, you should take sectional mock tests. You should strictly adhere to the sectional time limits. If a specific topic is troublesome, then only should you go and study it from the basics.
Overcome the weakness
Neha Manglick the 100 percentiler in CAT started her CAT preparation journey seriously around May/June. One of the key preparation tips shared by her is to do away with weakness on relevant topics and improve speed and accuracy by attempting as many mocks as possible

3) Complete syllabus by June end for the same years CAT.
4) Give mocks seriously . Analyse your performance after every one. Identify your strengths and weaknesses.
5) Revise your weakness and try a variety of questions from various sources like past year mocks, CAT papers before 2009 from July to November
6) Before the CAT be adapt to the pattern and be confident. Half of the effort for cracking CAT requires your calmness and presence of mind during the exam.
7) Keep your motivation level up and be determined during the preparation duration.
