The university's admission committee usually sets cut-offs after considering several factors. These may include the popularity of a program, the number of seats available, and the overall performance of students in entrance exams. For instance, a university may have a higher cut-off score for a popular program such as engineering or medicine compared to a less popular program such as arts or humanities.
For students who are preparing for entrance exams, it is important to start preparing early and not wait until the last minute to start studying. Students should create a study schedule and ensure that they stick to it. Additionally, they should ensure that they understand the concepts rather than just memorising the facts. Solving questions from previous years' papers can also be helpful in improving their performance. However, they should also remember to take breaks and not overwork themselves.
It is important to note that cut-offs are just one of the many factors that universities consider when making admission decisions. Other factors such as the student's academic performance, extracurricular activities, and personal statement are also taken into consideration. Therefore, students should not be discouraged if they do not achieve the cut-off score for their desired program. They can still improve their chances of getting admission to a good university by applying to multiple programs and writing a strong personal statement. By doing so, they can increase their chances of getting into their dream university.
