Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda was established by Sir Pratapsinghrao Gaekwad in the year 1949. Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda Vadodara was earlier known as Baroda College which came into existence in the year 1881. The University imparts education to more than 35,000 students and has a strength of more than 1200 faculty members and 1500 administrative staff. The University is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). MSU offers undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and doctoral programmes related to several disciplines. The students of the N.C.C group also take part in various other activities including Para Sailing, Gliding, Para dropping, Training Camps, National Integration Camps, Rock climbing and Mountaineering activities Boat Pulling/Sailing and Ship Modelling etc.
MSU Union- MSU Union has been formed inside the campus of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda Vadodara with the objective of promoting the overall development of students academics, social interaction, sports and cultural interests. Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda provides some facilities to the students, staff and faculty of the University including library, health centre, computer centre, centre for lifelong learning & extension, physical education & sports, guest house, university press, hostels, auditorium etc. Detailed description on all the facilities provided to the students, staff and faculty are mentioned below.
Library- Shrimati Hansa Mehta Library was established on May 1, 1950. The library was established with a collection of 25,000 books belonging to two State Libraries namely Huzur Political Office and Secretariat Library. The library has a collection of 8,86,304 books including text and reference books, 280 printed journals and 40,000+ online journals, 34 magazines, 3601 thesis and 10 kindle e-book readers etc providing all necessary information to students and staff regarding any researched topic.
Health Centre- The Health Centre was established in the year 1964 inside the campus of MSU which has trained medical officers and nurses providing medical treatment to students and faculty. University employees and their immediate family members and students can avail the health care facilities free of cost.
Computer Centre- The Computer Centre was established in the year 1980 under the approval of University Grants Commission (UGC). The computer centre has a set of computers well equipped with modern software and hardware to meet the requirements of the advancing technology. An advanced internet surfing facility called SURFLAND is provided inside the computer centre with support from the Technology Promotion Trust(TPT).
Centre for Lifelong Learning & Extension- This Centre was established inside the campus of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda Vadodara in 1971 with the objective of providing both long-term and short-term courses to all age groups. All students will be awarded with certificates on completion of their courses. It is mandatory to have 80% attendance in short-term courses and 70% attendance in long-term courses for all students to appear for the examination.
Physical Education & Sports- MSU Baroda provides sports facilities to the students of the University including Cricket, Kho-kho (women), Hockey and Football. The sports department is provided with one Director and seven Assistant Director (5 Men & 2 Women) and a Hockey Coach to train the students regarding different kinds of sports and prepare them to present the University at various state, national and international competitions.
Guest House- The University guest house provided inside the campus of MSU is well equipped with basic facilities for comfortable stay of guests. The guest house has 30 rooms in total which can accommodate a good number of people.
University Press- The University Press is responsible for all the printing all question papers, Senate Proceedings, Minutes of the Syndicate Meetings, details of Establishment, Annual Accounts, Budget Estimates, Questionnaires, Magazines, Pamphlets, Certificates, General Forms, Prospectors, Admission forms, Examination forms, Letterheads, Receipt Books, University Diary, University Calendar and other job works of the different faculties and Institutions of the University.
Hostels- There are 12 boys hostels and 4 girls hostels provided inside the campus of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda which is spread over an area of 100 acres. Hostels are allotted to students based on the availability of rooms. All the rooms are provided with basic furniture and facilities including bed, cupboard, table, chair, hot water boilers facility etc. All hostels also have dining facilities of their own.
Auditorium- C.C Mehta Auditorium is provided with advanced audio and visual facilities where all cultural programmes, seminars, meetings, conferences etc are conducted. Other additional facilities are also available inside the auditorium at affordable charges.

Thus the University Library System was established on 1-5-1950, which was housed in the central block of Old Residency Office Building.
Physical Education and Sports are an integral part of General Education. This department with one Director and seven Assistant Director (5 Men & 2 Women) and a Hockey Coach arose general consciousness of health among students and select and train capable to represent the University at state, national and international sports. Amongst them are Shri Ansuman Gaekwad, Shri Kiran More, Shri Atul Bedade, Shri Nayan Mongia represented the country in cricket, Shri Salim Ginwala and Kum. Lata George for the world university games in Football and Table Tennis. Kum. Trishla Singh and Shri Davinder Singh won gold medal in the All India Inter University Swimming and Athletics. Beside this University Cricket, Kho-kho (women), Hockey and Football teams won the All India Inter University Championship. This department also looks after the day to day maintenance of the swimming pool, gymnasium and other out and indoor facilities for the entire student community.
The Maharaja Sayajirao University - Computer Center as a central facility started in 1980 with the assistance from the University Grant Commission(UGC), New Delhi and installation of IBM/360 system. Initially research students and teachers were using the University Computer Center for research data processing work. Later on Computer Center had started to undertake job works for different industries like Oil & Natural Gas Corporation(ONGC), Gujarat Electricity Board(GEB), Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Limited(IPCL) etc. to sustain development expenses. During the past 25 years, with the development in technology, the Computer Center had upgraded hardware and software from the grants received from the UGC and different Five Year Plan grants from the state government and other government funding agencies. Later, The Computer Center had widened its activities and started to computerized university applications like Examination Result Processing System, Payroll System, Provident Fund Accounting System etc. In 1999, the activities of the Computer Center underwent a major reorganization with the establishment of a branch in the University Office premises for the purpose of administrative convenience, which was meant to take care of the automation of various university operations of Exams, Accounts and Administration. The original premises at the D. N. Hall embarked upon a major developmental agenda involving the establishment of network facilities, providing internet connectivity, deployment of web-based services and training of manpower and as facilitator for international academic interactions. In September 1999, a central facility for internet surfing SURFLAND was started at Computer Center, with the financial support from alumni of the university under the banner of Technology Promotion Trust(TPT). Later on with the financial and technical support from the alumni the university had connected more than 2500 computers to the network that has fiber optic backbone of approximate 27 KMS. across various campuses of the university.
The University has a canteen facility for staff and students.
The C.C Mehta Auditorium has been effectively used by the University and the other Institutions for academic, cultural, social or the business purposes since its establishment. During the year 2005-06,total 327 shifts were booked during the said period and the net rent collected through booking was Rs.1943976/- . During the year 2005-06, total 327 shifts were booked. 70 shifts were used by the University Institutions and rest by the other out side groups. 170 cultural programmes, 117 meetings/seminars and 40 conferences/symposiums etc. took place in the Auditorium. Many of them also took the advantage of Auditorium ancillary facilities. Noteworthy events during the year were celebration of “Vadodara Festival 2006” organized on wide scale by the University, Birth anniversary of late Prof. C.C. Mehta Saheb and World Theatre Day wherein Auditorium actively participated in management and offered its dedicated services. Additional facilities were also introduced on reasonable charges. The University Guest House is located in the heart of the University Campus, just besides the Vice Chancellor's Bungalow. It provides comfortable facilities for staying on the campus. It has total 30 rooms with different types of comforts
