A technician has only two resistance coils.By using them singly in series or in parallel, he is able to obtain the resistance 1.5,2,6and8ohms.The resistance of two coils are
Hi Varun,
Let's assume the two resistance coils be R1and R2
We have the three possible combinations
- R1 or R2 if they are used individually
Let, R2 be the larger of the two.
- R1*R2/R1+R2 if used in parallel
This is the smallest value. Parallel Resistance <R1 & <R2
- (R1+R2) if used in series.
This is the largest value. So, Series resistance >R1 & >R2
Hence, it given that (R1+R2) = 8Ω
R1*R2/R1+R2 = 1.5Ω
So, on solving the above equations R1 and R2 comes to be 2Ω and 6Ω respectively.
